Videodensitometric Methods for Cardiac Output Measurements
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cardiac output is often measured by indicator dilution techniques, usually based on dye or cold saline injections. Developments of more stable ultrasound contrast agents (UCA) are leading to new noninvasive indicator dilution methods. However, several problems concerning the interpretation of dilution curves as detected by ultrasound transducers have arisen. This paper presents a method for blood flowmeasurements based on UCA dilution. Dilution curves are determined by real-time densitometric analysis of the video output of an ultrasound scanner and are automatically fitted by the Local Density Random Walk model. A new fitting algorithm based on multiple linear regression is developed. Calibration, that is, the relation between videodensity and UCA concentration, is modelled by in vitro experimentation. The flow measurement system is validated by in vitro perfusion of SonoVue contrast agent. The results show an accurate dilution curve fit and flow estimation with determination coefficient larger than 0.95 and 0.99, respectively.

Videodensitometric processing of contrast two-dimensional echocardiographic data.
We developed a computer program to analyze videodensity changes due to contrast appearance within a given operator-designated rectangle using two-dimensional echocardiograms previously recorded on videotape. Videodensity curves have been obtained from two-dimensional echocardiographic recordings in 14 patients after a total of 32 injections of 5% dextrose solution into the left ventricle during...

AIMS To assess the value of videodensitometric quantification of the coronary lumen after angioplasty by comparison to two other techniques of coronary artery lumen quantification. METHODS AND RESULTS Videodensitometric quantitative angiography, edge detection quantitative angiography and 30 MHz intracoronary ultrasound imaging were performed after successful balloon angioplasty in 161 patien...
متن کامل[Comparison of cardiac output measurement in critical patients using transesophageal Doppler or thermodilution: a preliminary report].
BACKGROUND Cardiac output can be measured non invasively by transesophageal Doppler. This is an alternative to measure it by thermodilution with a catheter in the pulmonary artery. AIM To compare both methods of cardiac output measurement. MATERIAL AND METHODS Simultaneous measurement of cardiac output by transesophageal Doppler and thermodilution with a catheter in the pulmonary artery in ...
متن کاملNon-invasive measurement of cardiac output during coronary artery bypass grafting.
OBJECTIVE A new device, using whole body bioresistance measurements and a new equation for calculating stroke volume has been developed. Using this equation, an attempt was made to correlate whole body bioresistance cardiac output with thermodilution cardiac output in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting. METHODS Thirty-one adults undergoing elective coronary artery bypass graf...
متن کاملPulseCO: a less-invasive method to monitor cardiac output from arterial pressure after cardiac surgery.
BACKGROUND Cardiac output is often monitored after cardiac operations with a pulmonary artery catheter. A new method has been introduced that measures cardiac output by lithium dilution (LiDCO) and uses these data to calibrate a system (PulseCO) that calculates cardiac output continuously from the energy of the arterial pressure waveform. It is unknown whether PulseCO measurements are valid ear...
